Pulseless electrical activity is a very serious medical emergency with very high mortality unless its etiology can be quickly ascertained and corrected.
A super useful mnemonic to remember the different causes of pulseless electrical activity is:
- MAD (triple H) CAT
If you are a fan of WWE (well, who isn’t ?) , Triple H, one of the biggest WWE stars, and his “mad cat” will help you remember the etiologic causes of Pulseless Electrical Activity.
- M: massive pulmonary embolism
- A: acidosis
- D: drug overdose
- H: hypoxia/hypothermia
- H: hypovolemia
- H: hypokalemia/hyperkalemia
- C: cardiac tamponade
- A: acute myocardial infarction
- T: tension pneumothorax
Hope that mnemonic helped. If you have a better mnemonic for the same, do share in the comments below. Sharing is caring 🙂
