Remember the CLinical Features of Sarcoidosis using the following mnemonic – CORONA VIRUS
- Calcium increase in serum and urine, CD4 helper cells
- Osteopathy
- Reticular opacities in lung radiography, Restrictive cardiomyopathy
- Ocular lesions(e.g. uveitis)
- Neurologic manifestation,
- Noncaseating granulomas
- Nodules(subcutaneous), Nodosum(erythema)
- Asteroid bodies, ACE increase, Anergy, Adenopathy
- Vit D increase
- Interstitial lung fibrosis, Ig increase
- Respiratory complications, Renal calculi
- Unknown etiology
- Schaumann calcifications, Skin lesions
Another one that is very easy to remember, use the mnemonic SARCOIDOSIS to remember the clinical features of SARCOIDOSIS.
SARCOIDOISIS:
- Schaumann calcifications
- Asteroid bodies/ [ACE] increase/ Anergy
- Respiratory complications/ Renal calculi/ Restrictive lung disease/ Restrictive cardiomyopathy
- Calcium increase in serum and urine/ CD4 helper cells
- Ocular lesions
- Immune mediated noncaseating granulomas/ [Ig] increase
- Diabetes insipidus/ [Vitamin D ] increase/ Dyspnea
- Osteopathy
- Skin (Subcutaneous nodules, erythema nodosum)
- Interstitial lung fibrosis/ IL-1
- Seventh CN palsy
ANother mnemonic to help memorize Sarcoidosis symptoms and signs is A GRUELLING Disease
- ACE increase
- Granulomas
- ARthritis
- Uveitis
- Erythema Nodosum
- Lymphadenopathy (B/L Hilar)
- Lupus Pernio
- Idiopathic
- Noncaseating
- Gammaglobinemia
- Vit D increase (Hypercalcemia)
Those three mnemonics should cover all the clinical features you need to memorize in sarcoidosis for USMLE / PLAB / NEET-PG.
