Remember the Differentials of SYNCOPE using the mnemonic SYNCOPAL FAINT.

  • Seizure
  • hyperventilation, hysteria
  • Neuropathy (Diabetic)
  • Cardiac: Arrhythmia, MI, IHSS, AS, Pump failure
  • Orthostatic syncope
  • Pedal Pooling from venous insufficiency
  • Arterial insufficiency
  • Low Blood Volume: Bleeding, dehydration
  • Fainting – Vasovagal
  • Adrenal Insufficiency (Addisons Disease)
  • Iatrogenic from Medications
  • Nutritional (Not eating, hypoglycemia)
  • Toxin: alcohol and others
